Sacraments
"…And remember, I am with you always even to the end of the age." ---Matthew 28:20 (RSV)
The Catholic Church celebrates seven Sacraments which were instituted by Christ during His earthly ministry:
Sacraments of Christian Initiation:These Sacraments "ground the common vocation of all Christ's disciples, a vocation to holiness and to the mission of evangelizing the world" (CCC 1533).
Baptism
Eucharist (Holy Communion)
Confirmation
Sacraments of Healing:Through the Sacraments of Initiation we receive new life in Christ. However, "we are still in our earthly tent, subject to suffering, illness, and death" (CCC 1420). The Sacraments of Healing allow the Holy Spirit to continue healing and salvation among the members of the Church.
Penance
Anointing of the Sick
Sacraments at the Service of Communion:These Sacraments are "directed toward the salvation of others" (CCC 1534).
