Liturgy of the Word for Children
Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) is offered during the Sunday 10:30 am Mass from October through May.
Children are dismissed after the opening prayer and an adult leads them to a separate room nearby. There they spend time hearing the Scripture readings on a level appropriate to their understanding. They then return to rejoin their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist and the rest of Mass. It’s a great way for children to connect with the Sunday Gospel!
The "Decree and Directory for Masses with Children" published by the Holy See in 1973 speaks of this topic in No. 17:
"Sometimes, moreover, if the place itself and the nature of the community permit, it will be appropriate to celebrate the liturgy of the word, including a homily, with the children in a separate, but not too distant, room. Then, before the Eucharistic liturgy begins, the children are led to the place where the adults have meanwhile celebrated their own liturgy of the word."
